Let's Talk About Pricing...

So I wanted to look into what the features were for SurveyMonkey that cost money.  Below are the 4 plans, starting with the basic free and moving to the "select", the "gold", and finally  "platinum" plans.  As you can see, the features improve dramatically with the price increases, and I thought that this must be a great service.  Because I can't afford to sign-up for this service, I wanted to see what others had experienced, so I went off to do some research.  What I found wasn't pretty.

A quick google search revealed pages and pages of customer complaints, the most common being that the prices quickly escalate as individuals and businesses built the surveys that they needed.  The overwhelming sense, at least through the informal research that I did, was that the price was not worth the services that were being provided.  The other big negative for SurveyMonkey was their customer service...or lack thereof.  Multiple complaints were out there about not being able to obtain a refund for services that were bought under "misleading" circumstances.  It seems like there is a whole lot of promise about what SurveyMonkey can do (for a fee), but those promises didn't pan out for many customers.

  1. Very informative information related to the cost issues. I am surprised to see the multiple level and could not quite understand the difference in terms of Gold and Platinum because the price difference is quite significant. I suppose these prices are per user so in platinum if you use multiple user then price will go up?
Surprising to learn about their consumer support service too.

  2. Another great blog! My thoughts on the blog is that the packages that involve a price/cost would be extremely beneficial for big businesses. A big corporation could email all of there customers surveys based on the product or service. For a small classroom setting, the free package would probably be the best bet.

  3. I like what Brianna said. I do not like using anything that costs money! I am only a teacher so money is always tight! Big business though is definitely a place for this. In a former life I worked as an event manager for some very large corporations and this would have been used (and probably is) all the time! This could provide instant feedback on the various breakout sessions that happened multiple times a day for the conferences I would run, and would provide data that could be used later in the convention. This would be a huge savings for these larger companies to use.
